I know I'm supposed to fit these gratitudes in somewhere in the book, so I figure here is as good a place as any. First, and this is a surprise to me, I want to thank the late and great Ray Charles, and the Rayettes. The fact that a black rythym and blues songman could be such a smash in the racialy tense world of C&W music in the early sixties, and crossover as he did to the pop top 40 with the same song, as easily as he would during his whole career, says so much for the power of good music. It drop kicks the uneasiness of foolish things so wonderfuly that it ought to be mentioned so much more by those who ought to.
Also, I have to mention Betty Boop, who was so much more than a cartoon figure. I heard her song "Be Human" early on in my writing career and I've never stopped using that as a measuring stick. Man. don't beat your animals. Be human.
Now, it is time to give credit where credit is due. To the 31 wonderful liars who said they loved me...then left me...dear Lord, I thank you all. Without that shabby treatment there never would have been "Drippin' Wet Diary", there would not have been a "Dental, Mental, Gentle Love", nor would the world had the chance to sing along with the Rollin' Stones's mid-career hit, "Quick, Mick, Pick up That Pick". I'd also like to thank Mick for the warm intro to the book and his stedfast encouragement all during its creation. Keep on rockin' in the U.S.A! (you can keep her, boy, she never smelled that good anyways). Private joke.
Finally, and not the least, thank you Lorenzo Finn, my manager and good buddy. I thank you for bringing me to the zoo that day way back then when we 'accidently' met up with George Strait. I thought you were just a big ol' bag o' wind till then. You really are somethin', my good man.
I could write all the night long if I had time and space for it, giving thanks for the many of you, some whom I hate...to admit how much you all helped...You know who you are. but I don't. This little song goes out to you all, with love.
'SAVE YOUR TOMMORROWS FOR ANOTHER DAY'
SOME OTHER DAY... SOME OTHER SONG. SOME OTHER SECTION OF THE ZOO
IT MAKES NO SENCE TO ME.. I HOPE LESS SENCE TO YOU
THE WORLD KEEPS MOVING SOONER THAN IT SHOULD.. IT STOOD TOE TO TOE
SO...SAVE YOUR TOMMORROWS....FOR ANOTHER....FOR ANOTHER.......DAY
SO...SAVE THEM....WHY NOT SAVE THEM...FOR ANOTHER ....OH, YOU KNOW...
Goodnight and may God bless you. Thankyou. .
