Yesterday morning while getting ready for work, some unusual fence rattling outside prompted me to look out my second story bathroom window to find what was either the largest mouse ever, or the cutest rat, trying to bust into my neighbor's garbage can.
We live in a row of townhouses on a main road. For the first time in 4 years, this spring has brought a rodent problem to the neighborhood. There was a rat hanging about in our yard. My landlords agreed to put out poison, and, although I never saw any poison out, he did disappear not long after this (and "evidence" stopped appearing). I have three cats, so was never too worried about anything getting into our place.
But yesterday morning, this little dude, about the size of a medium cat, was hellbent on getting into my neighbor's garbage cans for his breakfast. He'd scurry up the fence, crawl around edge of the lid, and try to pry the lid off. He'd eventually slip off the can, and begin the process again. I was fascinated, so much so that I was compelled to capture a few moments of his antics on video. It was very surreal that I should be watching this out my bathroom window on a Monday morning.
As I left for work, he darted across my neighbor's yard with what appeared to be a french fry in his mouth. Score!
I suppose I should mention all of this in a more sympathetic tone to my neighbor.
