To me, it's a telling point that Microsoft was so quick to announce that it was discontinuing support for XP and refusing to allow computer companies like Dell to sell new computers with XP pre-installed after a relatively short period of time, despite the fact that customers were requesting the older OS.

It almost seems like MS has so little confidence in its own product that it is using its muscle to force Vista down our throats, whether it's ready for us or not. That's a pretty disappointing decision from a company that hardly needs to have serious concerns about its bottom line; it really could have waited until the kinks were worked out before demanding that consumers use Vista. Even if my current system were "Vista-friendly" (new graphics card, extra 1Gb of system RAM, probably new HDD, at least dual-core processor), I have a hard time justifying an upgrade based on the nightmare scenarios I've read about here and elsewhere.

That's odd,the last i heard there was a furore & ms backed down & let dell & some other comp manufacturer to supply xp on machines if the customer wanted it,support is still continuing, SP3 is in beta for xp i think issue date is sometime this year & there will be continuing support for major bug fixes whn & if they're found including security,there's also a petition to keep xp around & microsoft have answered those peoples concerns tho for what i've posted here i'd have to dig up emails from cnet & techrepublic to backup what i've said,that said xp is on something like 80% of computers worldwide & vista @ a guess 10-20% ,discontinued support for xp is some way off,eventually it will stop altogeather & to me that won't happen till vista is less buggy,in the meantime new OEM xp disks can be bought as well as unused new retail versions,as far as i know there's no word on the date when support for xp will actually be discontinued period.

I can compare apples to apples ! Rainlendar (a tiny small software company) is working fine under Vista with UAC off. But you have a point, DesktopX isn't quite as popular as the other applications. And that's probably the reason that not enough Stardock resources are assigned to the development.

It says "DesktopX 3.5 arrives this month!" very prominently. It doesn't need the word "Guaranteed" to be a promise.

...and to make matters worse, Stardock leaves the lie sitting right there even though folks are complaining about it.

Hum.... Well you can still buy an Object Desktop subscription with DX include and using Stardock Central have the update to the last version today   OK that's not write 3.5 but i guess 3.49 beta is close isn't it?

I think Stardock take the right way in creating softwares that work under XP and Vista cause XP users are still alive and trust me Vista will make his own place too with some time surely but it will. So Have software that work under both is better for us isn't it?

Comparing Rainlendar to DesktopX is like comparing...ah crap stumped for an analogy.
Okay got it.
Comparing Rainlendar to DesktopX is like comparing Paint to Photoshop.
Last time I checked Rainlendar still doesn't support scripting.
Heck you can develop a Rainlendar type widget in DesktopX and that is one of many examples.
Simply put a scripting/development type program is a lot more complex than any single purpose app.

holomatrix69 has it right. That announcement has been there since last summer when I thought I'd go ahead and upgrade. About two thirds of the responses to holomatrix69 have been apologists for Stardock. Haven't had time to take the announcement down yet? Hmmm, July of '07 until April of '08. Now it's the end of April and somehow they've had the time for a site redesign and to roll out new products but not the time to finish an update that has been going on over a year.

The first big mistake was the marketing genious that put "DesktopX 3.5 arrives this month!"
on the web page in the first place. The second was the decision to leave it up nine months without releasing the product. Many people purchased the product during the last nine months and are still waiting for the version they thought they paid for. That isn't doing Stardock any good from a consumer relations standpoint. Third, the silent treatment by the development team on the forum is only adding to peoples frustration and last the expectations of Stardock from the posters that answered holomatrix69 show the new priorities Stardock has evidently adopted for those of us with existing products. Icon Packager, Desktop X, Window Blands and others I own have had some of the same bugs as when I bought them four and give years ago. Yet the new games and other new titles keep on rolling out on a regular basis.

I wonder how feverantly the apologists from Febraury are still defending Stardock with only a week remaining before May 1st? Judging from their comments I'm pretty sure they are as blindly supportive as ever.
