Well I guess I will be the first to comment on this one. The "Five Sci-Fi Scenarios That Will Come True" is not very informative. These scenarios are way too obvious. The article should have gone deeper and let people know that many techs such as those in "Star Trek" are possible.
The only thing that will not be possible is flying through space faster than the speed of light. Traveling through wormholes will be the only way to travel. The reason why is first, if you were to travel through space faster then the speed of light, your spaceship would be torn apart by space debris. Ah, so you say "not with my shield on". well your right, but in order for your shield to function properly you could not travel faster then the speed of light because you cannot project you shield in front of you since the projection is only the speed of light. So therefore traveling faster the speed of light with a shield is impossible and without one your spaceship would be torn apart. Since the distances between stars are so great, it would not be feasible to travel in this manner. The closest star is 4.2 light years away. Wormholes are one of three ways to travel the great distances. Another way would figure out how to fold space then we could jump (basically teleport) to different points in space. Another way would be to figure out how to exit the universe and enter back in at another point. The great thing about that would be time travel would be possible. Because time is only relative in the universe and not out of it, you essentially would be able to enter back in at any point of place and/or time. The latter two would be best because we could possibly have more control of where our destinations are. If wormholes exist, we would have no way of knowing where or when they end up.

Just think a computer would need to have a copy of your DNA, and the computer would have to analyze how every atom and every molecule is laid out in your body and then the computer would basically destroy your body by tearing it apart atom by atom, then with the teleportation method above, it would transfer those atoms by teleporting them and then another super powerful computer would analyze the stream of data and rebuild you. The interesting thing is that “would you yourself (meaning your mind) be teleported too? Or would it basically clone you, which would be interesting because if the computer didn’t tear you apart, but just copied you and rebuilt you elsewhere. Then we would essentially have a cloning machine.
What about immortality? Would you think that this is possible? Well I have to say “yes” this is a very real possibility. We have mapped the human genome which allows us an unlimited amount of possibilities. But this is not necessary, what is necessary is nanotechnology. Yes nanotechnology! Nanotechnology refers broadly to a field of applied science and technology whose unifying theme is the control of matter on the atomic and molecular scale, normally 1 to 100 nanometers, and the fabrication of devices with critical dimensions that lie within that size range.

Nanotechnology Ok where was I? Oh yeah! Immortality, First lets talk about how we die. There are many reasons why we die, but I’m not talking about death caused by accidents or what not. I’m talking about either natural death or death caused by a slow process of disease or contamination. Well what if we have super small robots that could travel inside the body and repair individual cells when they get damaged before the damage spreads to other cells. Imagine miniature robots, smaller than the cells in your body roaming free throughout your body acting like super anti-bodies, but these anti bodies are also able to kill off viruses. Only if the disease progressed faster then the nanobots could do the repairs would you die. Another way you die is because your cells are programmed to die off, well imagine attaching a chip to individual cells reprogramming it to not die. Or better yet, we have already reprogrammed human skin cells. With the addition of four genes, human skin cells are prompted to act like embryonic stem cells. Imagine finding the part of the DNA that deals with life-span and adding or removing portions of it to change the way the DNA communicates its directives.

Lok how far we have come in the last 100 years and then look how far we have come in the last 20 years. Imagine what we will accomplish in another 100 years. I bet we will accomplish 1000 times more in the next 100 years then we have in the last century.
