logonui.exe is a system process relating to the Microsoft Windows XP user switching screen. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.


LogonXP files are Files Run By LogonXP. A program built by stardock..

Logon Studio creates a file called .logonuiX.exe that it uses in C:\Windows\System32 as the logon.

When it's uninstalled or deactivated, Windows will use logunui.exe as the logon. It doesn't mess with any system files.

You clearly have some problem with your system files. It's a simple program and can not cause any harm to anything.

Yes the logonui.exe is back to original. The stock XP screens are back. I tried to install the In Defence logons. I did not modify it. It showed up in the preview window and that was it. When I hit the apply button. All I got was the default logon boxes.

All I've tried was LogonStudio. I was reading on ResHacker. But that allows you to change the bmp's in logonui.exe. But it does replace it in the system32 directory.

Btw whats going on with this forum? It's like everyother post I put up it takes forever. I have to leave the site wait a while and then come back and post it. I never seen any other forum act this way.

Yes they are checked, they been checked ever since I installed XP. It seems that if you try to load a logon screen with LogonStudio and it doesn't go right. You end up with no screen, just the classic style dialog window for username and password.

I can post one post wait sau a couple minutes and then try to post another then it takes for ever. So no I don't clear the cache. I'm still on the site.

You never seen seen default logon boxes? And when I hit ctrl+alt+del the task manager pops up.

And what domain? I'm sitting right on my compuer.

I'm on my home computer. And I'm the only user. And when I get this LS is the default editor I said yes because if you say no. Then LS doesn't run.

Airbrush, if it comes to that make sure you either uninstall through SDC or use a registry sweeping program. If Logon Studio has registry entries that are left behind, then it still won't work with a fresh install.....

Yayyyyyy I did something right!

Now so you all know. When using LogonStudio. I found that if you tried to load a .logonxp file alone does nothing. You must go into the LogonStudio's folder and create a folder called what ever you want. Heres mine C:\Progtam Files\LogonStudio\Windows Vista Ultimate Large logon. Now I take my file called Windows Vista Ultimate Large.logonxp and change it to a zip. Like this Windows Vista Ultimate Large.logon.zip and extract it to that folder I created in LogonStudio. Now when you run LogonStudio. You now can load that file that would not load when it was call Windows Vista Ultimate Large.logonxp. It took me way to much time to fix this mess.


I also found out why I was having problems. I kept changing the background image and the user image. That cause a lot of the problems of me of not having a logon screen. The user image I changed to a .bmp but that was not enough. I needed to change it to a Windows Bitmap with Alpha. When I did this everything fell into place and worked. I am now a happy camper with a Vista logon screen that looks just like my real Vista logon screen but with the user image I wanted.

Now onto trying to figure out how change the Icons from XP to Vista. I have the whole set of Vista icons.
