Strange Noises...help!

I think I am in trouble here...
My computer started making strange noises yesterday... The computer can be idle, and I will hear a single beep every now and then. When I am doing something like typing like I am doing now, it will beep several times sporadically...they are almost always single beeps. They sound like the beep you get when you first turn on your pc...the post beep.

The only hardware I have added recently is a new 19 inch wide LCD monitor on the 2nd. I did install the drivers for it from the vendor's site.

I am afraid to think that my hard drive is getting ready to tank! I have never had this before.

If you have changed your monitor you may have disturbed the graphics card. Try reseating the card to see if that helps.

Happened to me. It was a steady slow beep. Turned out to be my keyboard. I bought a G15 about six mouths ago, been using it with no problems till last mouth when the beeping started. After an intense Google search I unplugged the G15 and plugged in the original keyboard. The beeping quit. Here's the funny part, I plugged the G15 back in and unplugged the original and no beep. Been using it since.

Might be the same with your monitor. Good luck.

I reseated the graphics card. Then I got an error message at bootup about a hardware monitor problem...the voltage was set at 3.3, and it was at 2.97. I couldn't get into windows...the beeping was going nuts! So, I turned the pc off, unplugged the monitor from the pc, plugged it back in, turned the computer back on, and everything booted up ok without any beeps...but when I got to the desktop, everything was off to the right, and I couldn't change it. So, I checked for a new graphics card driver...there was one, so I downloaded and installed it. Everything was ok, except the monitor resolution was at 1280 by 1024...so, I changed it back to the native 1440 x 900, and now I get occasional beeps again...not as much as before though.

My video card is an nVidea 6600 series.

This is driving me nuts!

Just a suggestion, I have no idea if it will help but your video card may not support the resolution your running at the refresh rate it's set to. Try going into Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor > Make sure "Hide Modes..." is checked > Flat screens generally run at 60 Hz > then go to the Adapter tab and pick your resolution from the "list all modes" list.

The beeps have stopped! The joys of PC's! I tried setting the refresh rate at 60, as I had it at that with my other LCD monitor, but the graphics card wouldn't accept it....insists on running at 75! Go figure!
