Well, Goole has finally gotten into the game on the Social Networking side.... to the point of they have sort of sat on the sidelines waiting and watching what works and what doesn't.
Well they have taken the plunge and are looking good to go on the horizon with OpenSocial, which is an Open API type thing to connect a variety of Social Netwoking sites under one umbrella. I must say as well, it is about damn time someone did this. I HATE trying to remember to go to the variety of different social networks to market my activities, so now perhaps that will be made easier very soon!
Oh and MySpace has gotten in on this as well, which fills a BIG time gap they had in thier network for allowing Apps to be made for their sites and if you ask me is where Facebook was beating them in the marketplace hands down!
One more item, Ning, which is a gaming platform also is part of the OpenSocial API.
I am calling it an API, but I am not totally sure that is what it is. Guess I havfe to read and dig some more to understand it. The best part of it is that you can develop your apps for OpenSocial using markup you are familiar with such as HTML and Javascript verse Facebooks private markup system. Guess Facebook and Microsoft looks like more of a match now, espcially after thier 30% stake purchase.
