Across The Universe

wow...

I saw this movie just yesterday, and I'm still blown away. I don't want this to turn into a plug, (if it hasn't already.) so I'll keep this post short. The gist is this: Universe is a jukebox musical that uses Beatals songs to tell the story of a British immagrant who comes to the U.S. during the Vietnam War. He meets a girl named Lucy, and together they experience the social movements of the 1960's. Has anyone else seen the movie?

It sounds like Molan Ruge (however you spell it)?

Anyway, i absolutely couldn't stand, i hated Molan Ruge! watching it made me feel like i was stuck in one of those horrible insane nightmares that i just want to wake up from!!

I would not say that it is like Moulin Rouge, though I did enjoy that film as well.

I am not a huge fan of the Beatles, musicals or romantic films, yet somehow this film brought all three together into a coherent whole. I realize it doesn't sound appealing, but I urge you to give it a chance regardless.

I would not say that it is like Moulin Rouge, though I did enjoy that film as well.

Yea my wife loved Moulin Rouge and tried to make me watch it, normally i will always try and keep an open mind about films she likes but i think i would have gone insane, on a killing rampage if i had forced myself to continue watching that nightmare!

Perhaps i would enjoy Moulan Rouge if i took an overdose of LSD??

I thought it was ok. I'm not a huge beatles fan, but I did think that the movie was very well done. The montage for "Let it Be" was totally amazing. Supposedly most of the music was sung on the stage, so it is really the actors singing, not lip syncing. I thought that was pretty impressive in a day and age where some musicians lip sync thier live concerts.

There was one scene (the circus) that totally confused me (perhaps I needed to be on LSD, lol), but I really didn't get it's purpose.

I'd say go see it if you have a passing intrest in Musicals, the Beatles, or the 60's. It ain't terrible.

Oh that counts me out then! lol (hate musicals)

I'm not too familiar with beetles songs either, not because i don't know the songs, but for a casual listener like myself, it is difficult to know what songs the beetles actually sang because of all the asseholes of that era copying the beetles style and muddying the waters as to who sang what!! ("hey hey were the Monkey's, we just like copying beetles").

I love this movie! Person above me...I hate musicals too but this was actually pretty good. Sorta trippy and if you do drugs at all before you see it you will like it even more ahhahahahahahaha...I didn't, mostly because I don't do drugs. I do however, enjoy Beatles musix, so it is a good movie by my reckoning...

I love this movie! Person above me...I hate musicals too but this was actually pretty good.

Are there any musicals i ever enjoyed? well i have to say, 'my fair lady' would top the list! Also the sound of music was pretty good. Also i think most of the old Elvis movies are pretty good too. Oh what's his name? Dean somthing and Jerry lewis movies, i love most of those too. I honestly cannot think of any modern musicals i have ever enjoyed? I almost liked Phantom of the opera, but the characters were a little to cliched, sterile or somthing i dunno?
