I don't want WB moving my skins!!!

Due to time constraints we cannot provide a function for changing the location in the WB UI for 6.0


This is something that needs a lot of testing to ensure 64 bit and other user accounts continue to work correctly.


For now if you want to change the location then you can do so via those registry keys.



But what about us? No cookies for 32 bit (WinXP) users or whatever you call us, even if we pay for SD, we don't get or we don't deserve it? Or what?

RGadelha: As I thought I had explained above, there was simply no time to implement such a function for 6.0.

But if you want to relocate your skins you can and we have provided you with instructions on how to do this.

Yes I saw you horse, it went right through the center of the village with a headless horseman on it!!!!!

Neil DO NOT change this I presently like this placement of the skins in the shared section of the system for many reasons~!
#1. It makes it very easy to share the files across my network for editing Vista and XP versions. {I have one computer XP Pro and one Vista...}
#2. It also makes it very easy to have my system do a auto backup of my skins before an update. {I also have a server with Acronis to backup each one of systems automatically. Which uses my network to do just that and other backup functions.}

This placement has been the best arrangement for me to have a complete control of all my editing functions and backups made so much easier.

Whatever the idea was for - it is a really good one!!!

I can understand why the skins are not put into Programs Files folder, I much prefer the new folder structure of Vista. But why are the skins moved to my public sharing folder? eg *\Users\Public\Documents\*

Everyone on my network can get into that folder and if they see a bunch of skins they might start messing with them. I *only* have stuff in there that is meant for other network users.

Why isn't the default folder my own User folder eg. *\Users\Necaradan666\Documents\* My .Dreams are already automatically stored inside a Stardock folder there.

j00 are making a mess of my system!

On a network can't you take care of that by setting access to files only to view?

A per user folder is not suitable for WindowBlinds as all skins must be readable by all users on the machine.

The location where WB looks for skins is set by two registry keys. They must be set to the same directory.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\WindowBlinds\wb5.ini\Installed\Path

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Stardock\WindowBlinds\wb5.ini\Installed\Path

If you want to put your skins elsewhere then you can change those keys and copy ALL of the directories off the current WB skin directory to that directory.


People should not have to go to their registries to add anything because of a program, that should be handled and fixed by the WB6 programers. WB6 & SKS6 look like they should have been brought out for Vista people and WB5 & SKS5 (with updates) for XP people. I don't like being nudged into something I don't want to, which is what I'm seeing with Vista and XP, but I do understand progress, I just don't like it shoved down my throat. I'm not attacking anybody here, I'm pissed mostly with Microsoft. Man when is enough enough???????   . Sorry for the rant all done

The problem is that the MS coders want this new location.  The reg work-around is simply a solution to keep others who prefer the status quo happy....

i am having the same problem only i just don't want it installed there..i want it with everything else...i have tried everything to change the install location and nothing has worked...why does it do this...if i can't install it where i want then i don't want it

i don't want ANYTHING in my shared folder unless i mean to share it...i know i am new with stardock but won't use a program that won't install where i want it too...its not just WB...for me its theme manager too...i use my shared folder (all users) to share files with others on my network...
