Trolls Commenting on Skins

Hi all, I guess this is mostly for the admins here at WC....

Over the years there has been discussion on how to handle skin comments (i.e. the unproductive ones). Some of the suggestions have been to give the uploader the option to allow comments or not (via a check box or the like) and another has been a 'report' button to have the violating comment reviewed by an admin. I'm just curious as to if this discussion is still being mulled over or if it has been placed to the wayside.

The reason for this is I have noticed some 'trolls' hounding particular skinners making comments on many of the skinners downloads; even master skinners have had this happen. I won't mention names or any skins themselves but it has happened recently on a 'master' skin. The comments barely even touched base on the skin itself even... it was pure nonsense and started a rant for no true reason.

Personally I see this as very counter productive for all. I can understand meaningless rants in the forums more so then on skin comments.

Anyhow, I was just wondering if anything was still being thought out for this sort of thing or forgotten about.

I agree in both way with that i read those comments especially two people

i guess have the ability to hide those comments will be good

I too believe Skinners should have the ability to hide unpleasant/nasty comments...they are negative and profit no-one.

BUT


Abusive comments or Stalking/harassing a skinner and down rating/bad comments, should result with those priveleges being revoked...


Commenting and Rating is a privelege, not a Right, abuse it and you will loose it...

I don't think anybody should be able to hide anything. Idiots are out there..if they have the ability to comment that's fine. Censoring them won't do anything....if your work is good, people will ignore them and make their own comments about how stupid they are.
If they don't....who cares??

We upload what we are happy with. Some like it, some don't. It's all part of what we do...

Very well stated boss0190. Here's an important point, if the Idiots are here that means a lot of villages areound the world are missing theirs. Think about it.

Hasn't thus far... that aside.. harassing someone in the forums is one thing, purposely trying to make them look bad \ ruin their reputation \ affect sales in a pay theme thread is another. If its me moderating it.. their gone. WC is rather tolerant when it comes to this.. is that a good thing? I think not. It is however at their discretion. If it is up to me..their gone. Wouldn't think twice.

I completely agree. Trolls are trolls...the tools are there to deal with them, enough of the pacifying and babysitting.

The point is not 'bad' comments towards the skins; those are fine and should be tolerated by anyone who uploads. People do have opinions and are entitled to them.

Rather what I'm mostly speaking on (and was discussed in the past) is more along the lines of unproductive comments that berate the skinner or hardly, if at all, deal with the skin itself. These types of comments should have no place and a skinner should not have to deal with this type of thing.

Hi Guys, as most of you know I am Blind and run a club here in the UK for disabled computer users. These trolls that I keep hearing about are faceless cowards really, anyone can hide anonymously behind a computer screen and say derogatory things about someone elses works. I personally feel that these people are jealous of the achievement of others and so therefore be treat with the contempt they deserve! When a dog is being trained to help blind people we are told that they cannot differentiate (probably mispelt that sorry) between good attention and bad attention therefore when they are good reward them, when they are bad ignore them so we should be doing the same with the pathetic maggots and THEIR comments.

Once again thank you to all my friends out there in Wincustomise land in particular SKOriginals for all of his help

Unless the comments break site rules, that is personal attack/vilification/racism etc etc, they will have to stay. Once you get into a cycle of removing less than pleasant comments you begin to be accused of elitism/censorship/heavy-handedness.

If you are going to show a public face on the internet then you need to develop a thick skin and treat such comments with the (zero) attention they deserve.

If anyone has concerns about a particular comment they should contact a moderator privately

I agree with Boss.

No matter how harsh laws get, there will still be those that were home schooled. Problem is they were alone at school.

There are people on teh interwebs that have a goal to be the most famous asshole on the net. Thousands of them.

All the more reason why the Report link needs to be added to skin comments as well (along with the report link for the actual skins themselves).

This the wisest judgment I know of. I think Stardock been taken their job very well. Honestly speaking, some skinners' cocky attitudes have stagnated their own skill and selling record, but they always blame on those "trolls" whom made a "negative" comments on his works. What the incorrigible !! But,we got to admit some skinners who sitting in front of monitor all day long would like the ingratiation more;such as the cheerleader.

about "negative" we talk about no sens comments, harassing comments with question non regarding the skins but the skinners, insulting comments ....

like:

about my first boot:

"If only you didn't ruin it with a mustang.. why not the Camaro or RX-7?!

Still a sick boot!"


about a Master Skin:


"Why you double all of image files on Mainstyle for Substyle?? It didn't have to this way. You would abstemiously have another .xpstuff for Substyle and add those two lines on it which differ with Mainstyle.-"more program buttons" images. Since,both styles are implementing the same images, the only different were those 2 “more program buttons” images, and it didn’t need to copy all of images just for Substyle. Same is for .ToolBarIcons,Anomations and ShellStyle.xps.

Moreover,what happen to .animations? Files only need 7 .avi ,and no line for“ChangeAttributes”.avi?? No "search”shellstyle folder background?? And, those .png image files were residues while you making.

With all of above curtailment, the Odyssey Windowblinds skin was dropped from 2MB to less than 1MB and works fine. I think I have been keep reminding you on this issue, yet you obstinately continuing choose to ignore and to go your own gait... All of Windowblinds skins you made (of which has .substyles) has same kind of aesthetic issues, by doing so, it only show those skins are average, not leap excellent to glamour. This is my last commands on your skins, I really wish you best and the colleagues you works with are helping you best, not just flattering around."

thought now two thing first concerning the comment about "Moonlight" dxtheme that the owner of "Moonlight" is one of those who moderate this gallery amazing people complaining about a thing the owner not (one of the thing who made PM/email/IRC better than comments to report a "RIP")
2nd since the Mar 29, 2007 rediffkhan haven't upload anything Cool one point for the TrollcommentingTeam.

Now if you haven't understand what i said make a skins and wait for those comments

I agree with Boss and Fuzzy.  The site does give chances to the offenders and if they keep it up, they do get exiled.  But to give everyone the ability to censor the comments would be wrong.  There would be nothing but glowing comments and most everything.  Like Fuzzy said, if ya have a problem with a comment, PM a MOD.

i agree with that WOM personaly after a good coffee and shower (look like it's need to think before acting ) i'm for the ability to report them via a report button/link as Bebi said on the skin itself and in his comments it's true that hide will solve nothing i experimented it on DA report it will be better.

Fuzzy I agree all misuse of the site should be reported to the site moderators but how does one identify who is a mod and who is not. I only joined wc in the last week or so and to be honest I am not familiar with the do's and don'ts. Would anyone be kind enough to direct me to this information please

Seriously,your boot's comments didn't look harmful,except the one vocabulary:"sick". And the master skin's comments are the feedback from that purchaser which both comments all regarding the "skin" itself,not on the skinners.


However,after rummaging this thread of skinner's works,I found someone's slate not very clean by himself. If the report button and the strictly "not positive" comment rule was applying before,this skinner should be long gone,isn't it??

Many still seem to be missing the point. Its not negative comments towards the skin but, comments that are negative and that have nothing to do with the skin. It is not about protecting 'some skinners' cocky attitudes' or 'the ability to censor the comments' or 'less than pleasant comments'.

I have seen comments that are both bashing the skinner and/or the program the skin was made for. And as much as we would just like to ignore them, they generally start a rant where the skinner and others are posting back to the original. These are the ones I think should be reported. With a 'button' for reporting these types of comments a regular system will be in place for admins to review such items without someone having to hunt them down and hope they connect with the proper person for action to be taken if warranted.

This is not about general negative comments such as "I don't like the skin for blah blah reason." I never intended for that to be the case and neither should the admins. As I said above in comment #10...

Granted something like a 'button' might be abused but so are all things by such people who wish to do so. Maybe a message above a text box (for the purpose of the 'report') that states what it is intended for and a general 'rule' for what is allowable and not.

I really don't know what the difference between "PM administrators" with "Report button" on comment area. It was more convenient for administrators dealing one by one than having plethora of "report mails".

If sorry but i guess you talk about the earth when we talk about the sun

regarding my boot comment it's not harmful it's no sens cause a skinner made skin for him and share i've done a car boot i'm not gonna make one million cars boot with all style of boot and this kind of comment is an example nothing more.

you linked/quote comments but cut them out of context nice isn't it

we don't talk about not positive comments but insulting/harassing/nosens comments please if you don't know what you talk about inform you and read this kind of comments...

if you read the skins comments i linked you should understand that there are limits like racism.... and we talk about those limits not:

trolls: "i don't like this skin and skinner"
skinner: "i reported"
mods: "you are banned"

we talk about:
Trolls: " you are a %$£####//*-R{[]ao€ and your skins too (of the scene the skinner press report button with all needed informations, the admin/mods are aware of this issue they state about it)
admin/mods: "you should be more nice and stop harassing/insulting before get banned"
Trolls " you are a$$#### you and your sit""""
you can expect the suite

i hope you get the picture know we try to debate about a real issue
