Give me a choose operating system screen

I decided to give BootSkin a try and loaded it. When I restarted my machine, it started giving me an option of "which operating system" I wanted to use, WindowsXP (bootscreen) or WindowsXP - it didn't matter which one I chose, I still got the windows standard screen... so I decided that it wasn't working and a pain with the extra stop to select my bootscreen, so removed the program. Well, it's not on my system any more... but I still get the option every time I start my computer. I hate it! Anyone have any suggestions?

reboot into
Safe Mode, delete Bootskin and remove vidstub.sys from system32 folder.

I have the same problem for a year!!

 Bichur, your advise doesn't work, because i can't find file "vidstub.sys" both in safe and normal mode.

please Help anybody!

Nope!  It was Dr Who's assistant, who just got back from a trip into time and space... apparently they thought it was yesterday two years ago.

Now about 2 questions from  Bichur

1)Windows XP SP3, but when I had been installing bootskin, I had Windows XP SP2

2) It's difficult, I don't remember version.

Try again installing the latest version. It should work.

 

Because when it does it's already today

The same, When yesterday goes, it's day before yesterday and so forth not yesterday.

which is probably one of the reasons: BootSkin XP is no longer supported and is available only on an "as is" basis.

Try again installing the latest version. It should work.

not necessarily, that's one reason it's no longer supported

Problem, which describes in first post.

 now about coorection:

1)make available close(secret) folder

2) Open file  C:\Boot.BAK

3) there are 2 almost same lines:

 

   I) multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional RU(bootscreen)" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT /usepmtimer

 

   II) multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional RU" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT /usepmtimer

4)  Now delete one of these lines (which you don't like)

Reboot system and enjoy!

Just wanted to let people know what worked for me, as I couldn't find boot.BAK, I believe the file we want is boot.ini, but I don't know if there are multiple ways to do this

 

Here is how to edit boot.ini and fix this problem:
