iTunes launched from dock in Vista causes scheme to change to basic

I'm having the same issue. I'm running Vista 64 Ultimate w/SP1 RC1 and ObjectDock 1.90 b537u.

It will happen whether you use a dock or not.

I verified again before posting that it works fine if launched from the Start Menu but changes the screen to basic if launched from the Dock. This with Object Dock running with and without administrator rights. I can reproduce this every time.

I get the same behavior in IE on certain pages. I hit a link that sent me hereWWW Link and all of a sudden Windows goes into basic mode. If I launch the link from an IE window that was started from the Start Menu it's fine. I was able to repeat this as well.

I'm enjoying the dock but it does have it's quirks and the need to run as administrator to keep the pretty icons for certain processes is a pain. I think any process launched from the dock when the dock is granted admin rights will run in that context. Not safe at all.

I still don't get quite the same results as you guys however I did email the developers on this for some insight. I'll let you know what they have to say about it.

What version of iTunes are you using, and what are the shortcut properties in your dock? As far as IE goes, you might be running an old version of Java, which is known to knock Vista out of Aero Glass. Try either updating or uninstalling your Sun Java Runtime, if you have it. That may also be causing iTunes to hiccup, as they can browse the Apple site.

No Java here. I'm not even browsing Java enabled sites. The iTunes store works properly and when iTunes is launched the default view is my libary in standard list form, it's not opening to Cover Flow or the store mini or otherwise.

Seabass, is there a debug build you can send me to install so I can run through the steps and then send you a log file?

I have the same problem ,running Vista home premium sp1,launching Itunes through regular shortcut does not cause same problem.

1.  Go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock.

2.  Right-click on objectdock.exe.  (Maybe dock64.exe if you are running 64-bit.)

3.  Go to Compatability tab.

4.  Uncheck "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

5.  Hit "Show settings for all users" (at the bottom).

6.  Repeat step 4 in this dialog.

7.  "OK" out of these two dialogs.

8.  Restart ObjectDock.

You may need to check the same settings for itunes.exe.

Here's my experience:

Any website that uses quicktime will force the desktop to Vista Basic, IF you launch IE from the dock AND you are running 64-bit Vista.  It works fine on my 32-bit Vista Ultimate laptop but does the switch on my 64-bit Vista Ultimate desktop.

It does not happen if you run IE from the Start menu even if ObjectDock is running whether on 32 or 64 bit Vista.

I love being able to get to my system tray in a dock on my laptop.  I wish I didn't have to switch the taskbar on and off to get there on my desktop.

That, and the missing Start menu access from the dock and the above quicktime problem I hope are being addressed in ObjectDock 64 bit.
