Still haven't installed MS Office on my computer in years. I actually use OOo at work to recover alot of people's busted MS files or cross platforms blips from MacOSX Office to PC Office.

But beware of the OpenOffice worm Badbunny Just read this tonite from Cnet Published: June 11, 2007,

Malicious software targeting OpenOffice.org documents is spreading through multiple operating systems, according to Symantec.

"A new worm is being distributed within malicious OpenOffice documents. The worm can infect Windows, Linux and Mac OS X systems," according to a Symantec Security Response advisory. "Be cautious when handling OpenOffice files from unknown sources."

On Windows systems, it drops a file called drop.bad, which is moved to the system.ini file in the user's mIRC folder. It also executes the JavaScript virus badbunny.js, which replicates to other files in the folder.

Symantec rates the worm as a "medium risk."

I use it daily on my U3 flash drive and it does a really nice job when you need to open or edit stuff. But for the new 2007 office stuff - I try mainly to use just that only in the new formats.
Works nicer and easier to do more with things.

Oh and the worm comes in the mail! We have a security rule written for it. But if you use U3 with antivirus installed on the U3. It will not have that problem as long as you don't try to save someone's mail to it. Just get the principals straight and follow guidelines.

i have been using openoffice for the last 3 years and always found that it did exactly what i wanted, the fact that it is free is also a big bonus.
