Icon Packager Vista 64 Upgrade

Will there be an upgrade path and when? - Bait and Switch

I used OD for years, and having just finished building a new machine I decided to start using icon packager again after having my subscription lapse.

I downloaded the newest Icon Packager (released June 8th according to Download.com). When I tried to install it on my Vista 64bit machine it told me that the public version did not support 64 bit, but the enhanced (read:pay) version did - so I went and bought IconPackager. After it failed to install on my V64bit machine:

"Unable to locate C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_a08a3e21\ATL80.dll"

I began reading up only to discover that IP is NOT in fact Vista 64 compatible. Unfortunatly that is not what the message said, it simply said the public version was not compatible. This is a little like bait and switch if you as me, seeing as there is no way to actually try a 64 bit version before you buy.

So. Short of demanding my money back - when is the Vista 64 version due (previous posts simply say "soon" or "in the works"? AND will I get it for free. I will wait for the new version if there is a free upgrade for a purchase made today. If not, I'll talk to accounting...

I'm in the same boat as you , I bought OD complete ,as they
said they would get it Vista ready - didn't say anything about
32bit vs. 64bit - leading me to believe either would be ok .

So i went with 64bit and now i'm stuck as you are, hoping
for 64bit releases sooner than later - so i can relize all that
OD has to offer ....

Thanks to Stardock for the site and OD , and any help we can get
to get 64bit Vista compatible ...

I'd like to bump this topic as I too originally purchased IP under the impression that it would work with my Vista 64 only to find that I was mislead. When I say "work", I'm referring to the fact that it wouldn't even install as the installer failed with an error. They offered me a refund or wait for the 64-bit version. I chose to wait. How much longer? I'm getting tired of the default icons

why is IP working on my 64 bit install of Vista?


when i click on some of the vista cons it changes
them in folders , but does not change them on
the desktop - can only get Vista cons on the DT

care to explain , anyone ?

I too am having this issue, seem I can't get any of my icons to change nor will IP load up when I try to run it.

The current IconPackager is not officially supported for Vista 64-bit, according Stardock Sales. I cannot even get it to install on Vista 64-bit, so I have no way of knowing whether it would actually function. Until they actually update IconPackager to specifically support Vista 64-bit, we can't actually expect to be able to install or use it in this OS to any degree. I'm eager for it though!

Well I sure hope they update it soon. I think there should also be a more visible annotation about the 64 bit incompatibility on the sales page, as I missed the fine print also.

I have posted several times about the lack of 64 bit compatibility and the only responses I get are things like "when it's ready", "nobody said it would work with Vista 64 bit", "c'mon, you need to expect beta to be incomplete", etc., etc., etc., . I have been a OD subscriber for years now and have never seen such a lack of information and abundance of double talk. If it's not possible, just say so, if it has a release date, say that. Instead, SD has been strangely silent and simply let, for the most part, the end users answer the many questions, most of which who respond are using XP or are using Vista 32 bit, which is no answer/s at all. Can't say I'm to impressed lately with the effort at communication to the Stardock paying customers, in particular the Vista 64 bit'ers. Starting to feel like the red headed stepchild

I got told by Frogboy in that article a few weeks ago about the lack of Vista Ready Iconpackages that their would be a beta in 1 or 2 weeks. Kinda wondering whats up seeing how it's going on the third week.

I really wish 32 bit saw my full 4GB of ram rather than putting a full Gig into other stuff that I don't want it being used on..... *sigh*

I hear you there. I would Gladly take 32 bit if it saw all my ram. But what you can do?!?! I'm so irritated with not getting any answers on this end. I mean as a paying customer you should at least get some kind of reasonable response to your questions, but I feel like we're purposely being overlooked. I mean new software is coming out for OD but what about the software already available shouldn't they work on making sure it's compatible first or at the very least tell us it never will be if that is in fact the case?

Jeezus Jenny - WTF is up w/ X64 support, Stardock?! IP is NOT Vista x64 capable, WB6 is NOT Xp x64 capable - WTF?!?! Goddamm1t - either support ONE 64bit OS or NONE!! I would not have renewed my OD subscription if I knew support would be so all over the G.D. map!! You're p!ssing off your user base folks - figure it out already!!

Kind of wondering about IP too, frogboy said over a month ago that they'd be releasing a beta in 1-2 weeks, that would be the 2nd week of last month.....

IP for x86 has been out for about 6 months now? What gives

Hello all,

We have a 64-bit version in testing now.  We plan to release it in the near future.  The reason I am not commiting to a date at this time is because we also have two releases coming up (one new and one refresh) that are slated for next week and the first two weeks in November.

With that said, we will look to slip this into testing between testing of those applications.

Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!

the very latest update available on SDC (3.20a[rc].033) fixed all my problems I was encountering while using the x64 flavor of Ultimate- a BIG THANK YOU to you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was an update last night, but I've noticed a bug with it.
I have a .reg file I usually use (works on 32 bit with IP flawlessly) to remove the shortcut arrow. This method works fine in 64 bit except when using IP the shortcut arrow appears again. When I go to the settings to disable the shortcut arrow through IP it breaks the Favorite Links pane on explorer so no shortcuts are displayed in it.
Reapplying the .reg I use works when I kill explorer and load it back up. But if the PC reboots the shortcut arrows are back.
(This is a 64 bit issue only)

is anyone using vista64 able to change the icon of an individual drive in My Computer? i can't.  every time i try, explorer crashes.

Hi,

I purchased Icon Packager Enhanced today and downloaded it and attempted to install it.
When installing I get an error about a file ATL80.dll which can not be "opened". The error message is truncated. It probably wants to say "The system cannot find the path".
According to the error message it wants to install into C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_a08a3e21\ATL80.dll

An ATL80.dll is available in C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft.vc80.atl_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_none_94ebd770837bf1eb on my system.

I'm using Windows Vista Home Basic x64 on a Turion 64 cpu.


Update:

I installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) but it didn't help. I got a slightly newer ATL80.dll in a similar _none_ path, not in a _x-ww_ path.
Then I installed SDC, registered Icon Packager and downloaded the update to it. After the download finished the installation was initiated. I got an error message like "couldn't find path. Install from download directory". Now I have an Icon Packager directory in C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconPackager with 130 files and 15,4 MB (16.201.210 Bytes) but don't know from which install attempt it is and where the update download was placed.


Any help?
