Hello,
I've searched the forums for comments about "Copernic" and "desktop search" and found nothing in reference to the problem I'm seeing.
I'm an ODNT subscriber and my components are up to date. I use Windowblinds and ObjectBar only with the Dogma X4 skin. My computer has an AMD64 X2 4200+ with 2Gb of memory. OS is Windows XP (32 bit) SP2 - updated. Running two XFX nVidia GeForce 7900 GT in SLI with driver v6.14.10.9371.
After updating Copernic Desktop Search v1.70 Build 977 to the latest version (2.1) I'm experiencing problems. Please note that Desktop Search v1.70 is not experiencing this issue.
Opening the Desktop Search (v2.1) window or re-indexing (both from system tray icon's menu) cause my computer to effectively freeze. The Search window never fully gets drawn. Sysmetric shows cpu usage jumps to +50% and stays there (exact load varies by previously running apps). Mouse can be moved, other running apps can be attempted but their response time becomes glacially slow.
If you leave Desktop Search alone at this point, the system stays barely usable. At least in the sense that with an extra 10 minutes you can save and exit from other apps. However, attempts to terminate Search or shut-down Windows will cause everything to become unstable or completely freeze.
I've tried excluding Desktop Search using the per application options without effect (DesktopSearch.exe). I've turned off WB and tried using Desktop Search v2.1 - no problems at all, everything seems to be fine. I've re-enabled Search and system hangs/destabilizes/freezes as outlined. It's been awhile but I believe I tried changing skins (just in case).
Ultimately the only work-around I've found is to revert back to Copernic Desktop Search v 1.70 Build 977 (luckily, I back-up Internet Downloads).
Can anyone offer any suggestions? Help would be greatly appreciated.
