This can be duplicated by running icon X and ObjectDock 1.9 (I do have plus) then click a blank space on objectdock and right click now without selecting anything just click out of the window and bingo, everything is gone, desktop x objects and widgets. This works also by selecting configure dock as well.

Close ICON X and everything comes back. Strange.

Just don't do this and all is well, but this shouldn't be

Lets hope Green someone figures this out.

hmmm.... just saw this post...

running 1.9 freeloader version
started Iconx (crashed thrice - had it set to huge and forgot about the 50 some odd items I had dropped on my desktop since the last time I ran it)

cleared up my desktop, cleared the IconX cache, restarted it

OD set to 'keep in background when not in use'

seemed to work, then I tried:



and bam! OD disappeared.

but, it was still there. it went into auto hide mode even though my configuration were unchanged. I put my mouse up, OD pops down.

so, now I got FF reduced to just under OD
I do the right click trick again and both OD and FF are gone.
OD is autohid again and FF is invisible. doesn't seem to be minimized, if i right click the taskbar icon it come right back up.. same if i restore anything else then re minimize it (used Opera), so as I minimize - FF is back.

There is some not-fun with IconX and ObjectDock indeed.

The solution is not something you're going to like -- we're rewriting IconX to use a different mechanism because it just doesn't play well with other programs like this.

That's really the major change, the next IconX won't be based on DesktopX technology.

I'm glad updates are in the works to have these two play nice. Thanks for the responses.   

Curious - which features of IconX do you consider absolutely most important.  As we develop a new version of this, we are kind of in the position of having to actually lose features to gain compatibility.  So we need to find out more about what are the most important features of IconX to people.

Basically, what do you use IconX for in particular?

important to me:


1. Animated Transitions = check
2. Transparency = check
3. Shadow = not so much
4. Label Backgrounds = check

pretty much the same on don't use much feature:

sound - I'm usually on when everyone else is gone to be, so speaker on really low or usually off

special effects - mainly just use transitions

hiding icons - got enough of those withing ODNT doing that, plus the basic right click desktop......etc works for me

I'm glad this thread veered into this direction. I used to use IconX to make my icons bigger and easier to read/see. Later, I started running some DesktopX themes and encountered some of the unfriendliness, shall we say. Still later, I was running WindowFX and IconX together (having DX running was less important to me than having IconX's icon-enlarging capability) and they played nice. I tried out a new program several months ago from iDesksoft called Desktop Icon Toy, the main features of which I like are that it allows you to set a specific pattern of where the icons appear on the desktop, it allows you to set the icons to disappear for a set period of time if the cursor is not on the desktop, and it has several size settings for making icons larger. Because it is incompatible with WindowFX, I quit running both WindowFX and IconX in favor of Desktop Icon Toy. I think that if the new version of IconX had some of these features, that would be great.

I like the 'clock' option
