You talk about especially of Work totally made by an other author like icons, wallpapers,.... Or also about eventually of for example logonxp where there are only the wallpaper made by an other author....

depends look at a desktopX theme if the authors use a wall made by an other? or scripts? in this case all work post in dxthemes gallery should be put in this new gallery cause tell one who don't use a script by martin or mountain dragon for example.
And (cause it's my case) it's forget the work put on like made his own scripts/graphics/codes/...etc

LOL, of cousre, I  can say that because I have almost zero points of any kind.

If there were a finite number of points available and if I could trade in point for valuable prizes . . this would be a very different conversation.

It all becomes very muddy when the prospect of ports, etc is considered as well.

I think people can take 'heart' that posting works 100% belonging to another [with permission] will do next to nothing towards promotions within the user-levels here, in comparison with original works and/or ports....

A similar post popped up here last week due to an artist publishing someone elses work (with permission).  My interpettation of the end result was that WC is designed to showcase the art, not the artist.  Why make the system harder for the average end user who just wants to apply a cool wall or icon, or whatever?  As long as permission is granted and original artist cited the submitter has performed a service and the casual user can go about customizing.

I would rather the original artist submit here under their own name and get more direct credit but I'd hate to make it a hassle if they choose to give "distribution rights" instead.

The original artist can always say no, right?

If I did just what was popular, I probably wouldn't be writing this. lol. I agree with making something that has 'LASTING VALUE', though I have yet to achieve that. But I keep trying.

I guees it depends on ones use of the site.  I'm not one of the artists here.  I'm a user.  That's always been my focus.  And I've never used the points to find "good" artists so I could get thier skins.  I do sort by skin ratings sometimes but that's not related to points, is it?

If I was a big-time skinner I might care about my points.  Or, I might care about downloads. Or . . knowing me as well as I do, I'd make whatever it was for me and the community and watch the points/ratings/downloads as an aside.

I don't compare PC specs or penis sizes either; as long as they get the jobs done, I'm OK.    

Now, if I let this comment go...my head will explode. The problem is anything I say will just get me in some really hot water. So, I will pick on something else.

My downloads come mostly from the quantity of stuff I upload and not so much the quality. I van admit that. (And make a comment on the first quote at the same time. lol. No wait. That just makes it sound worse. lol. Frag it.)

I think of ThemesXP (Not sure I got that right) where damn near nothing was original. I posted there years ago with my first PC and before I knew about WC. It used to drive me nuts to see my stuff lost in a sea of ripped images and such.

I have seen a few threads and comments of late about the use of 'other people's work' and was just trying to think of a way to do it that might work for everyone.
I may be wrong, but those who agree with me might find that it is acceptable and I can't imagine that those who are posting other people's original work (with permission of course) would be upset they had there own category. As Roman pointed out, it is a way to see what's popular and perhaps the gallery could even use that as a theme or something like 'From Around The Web'. I dunno. Just thinking out loud.

I don't expect everyone to agree or WC to change everything fr me. After all, I see things that aren't there.
