WB 5.5 BSOD on Vista

I installed WB 5.5 on vista ultimate rebooted and got BSOD 7 times before i rebooted in safe mode uninstalled WB 5.5, reinstalled and had the same result any suggestions?

Thanks for all the input..


you gotta remember, sometimes posts slide down out of site due to activity on other posts putting them on top. after a while, if you have received no response, come back and post on it and it will rise to the top. most people just post: *bump* or the equivalent - I was up until about 02:45 my time and didn't see this last night

Sorry guys just frustrated,the BSOD comes on and off so fast i can't read a thing!When i install 5.5 if i do NOT reboot right after install 5.5 seems to work fine its after the first boot that the BSOD appears...

change your settings so that your computer doesn't restart automatically when it blue screens. then you can get the fault code.

Right-click My Computer, select Properties, then the Advanced Tab where you'll see a Startup and Recovery section. Click the Settings button & you can deselect the option to automatically restart in the System Failure section. Then if/when it BSOD's the information will remain on the screen.

I get exactly the same problem. Running Vista 32bit and Catalyst 7.2 on an X1900

I'd try going back to an earlier version of the driver. Seems a bit of a co-incidence, but the 7.2 driver has only been out a couple of days, could be that.

Already did that i only updated yesterday as the same thing was happening with the earlier version as well.

Am running WB 5.5 on Vista Ultimate 32-bit and Catalyst 7.2 on an X1600 pro. Not having any problems at all. So, it's not just the combination of Vista 32-bit, WB 5.5, and Catalyst 7.2. Did notice that the Colony skin, which I was using initially, had some problems. Switched to Copper Deck II and have no problems at all.

Would hate to think that your problems are video-card specific and/or skin specific. But, stranger things have happened with Vista.

Ok, today I encountered this problem as well. I started getting the BSOD upon a restart, and the error was the same, "***WIN32K,Sys-Address etc etc". However, I do NOT have Catalyst or ATI products at all. I am running nVidia Geforce 7300 LE (yes the card is pretty crappy, I'm waiting for DX10 to upgrade).

I know that there have been some mentions that nVidia's drivers aren't up to snuff in Vista yet and I agree, but it is clear this is happening elsewhere than ATI/Catalyst systems. Funny thing is, when Windows asked me if I wanted it to search for a solutions, it told me "Your catalyst drivers need to be updated". Haha. Like I said, no ATI/Catalyst hardware whatsoever.

After it happened, I started up in safe mode, removed Windowblinds 5.5, restarted and everything worked fine again. I reisntalled the latest graphic drivers, reinstalled WB 5.5, restarted, everything worked.

THEN, I opened SDCentral and an update was available for WB. I installed that and restarted, and the BSOD was back.

Strangely, after I tried restarting twice more, the computer DID start up and is running fine. I am scared to restart now because it might not start up.

Ok, So i uninstalled and reinstalled Vista exact same problem.Once installed after i reboot the BSOD appears just before Vista loads the logon screen the only way to get back to my desktop is to uninstall WB 5.5 in safe mode.Do you think its a good possibility its my ATI- X1300 drivers causing the problem?Running Catalyst 7.2
