Alright, allow me to be "the devil" for a few moments..LoL... Honestly im not looking to upset anyone or Flame/be flamed for the following opinions, so please lets try to have a normal discussion?
I installed Dreamscene and Dreamscape...initiated the first one that comes from MS and thought.."Wow..Cool!" Then I went to the Stardock Library and began DLing "Dark Avatar"(Which is pretty cool by the way) First thought about it was during DL..38 MB's Pretty big file..Shouldnt matter these days though right? Not with 200gb to a Terabyte HD's on the market, you can have a HUGE library of 40 Mb Dreams with that kinda of storage, LoL..Well..what about the people that create them for sharing...DLing on a broadband connection is a snap...Uploading..Ugg...Thats another story entirely...
So, after DLing all the dreamscapes that I liked, and using them it really hit me, They really are nothing more than movie clips and if you add pretty much any movie thats on your drive into the folder you can use it with Dreamscape..piece of cake..Did that..
Needless to say it didnt take long for the novelty to wear off..Animated walls are really nothing new, I was using them waaaaaaay back with windows98 themes, anyone remember those??..LoL! Yes it's true..Windows98 SE Plus had animated walls in it, and a few WB artists back then actually utilized the functionality of them to make them even more interactive.. Resources were the big issue back then as they seem to be currently with a few systems.. Just pointing out that this really is nothing all that new...
What I would like to see happen with the Dreamscapes really is More interactivity implimented into the background..not just stuff "Playing" or "Flying" around on the desktop..Lets face it.. it really can get to be annoying after awhile..LoL
Animation that also serves Productivity would be *Awesome...
Looping a movie clip over and over and over is "Ok" I suppose...but really how practical?
And lastly, smaller file sizes..
.swf might be the way to go instead of .mpg or .wmv , etc, etc..
I really dont know how practical that would be either..I do have some experience creating Flash animations and I do know that the file sizes are smaller and so on..
So there ya have it, my evil opinions..LoL..
Im not dumping the programs or anything..I will still use a few of the Dreamscapes definitely but I do think that it can be so much more other than a movie loop.
Im done, LoL (Puts Horns and spiked tail away for another day)
