Using Object Desktop modules without using Stardock Central (noob)

How to...

Can I just use the serial number I received for object desktop for WB5, Icon Packager, and Cursor XP without even installing Stardock Central? The link given in my email after I bought Object Desktop was only to download Stardock Central -- which I tried and really didn't like at all. Not to mention no matter what I did Desktop-X would not work properly at all. It kept giving me an "MCP" error? Anyway, I found no way to download the standalone version of each application without having to download Stardock Central (EG even when I tell wincustomize to re-send the application/s it only sends me the link to stardock central and not any of the stand alone apps), so perhaps someone could tell me how I might be able to do that? Also, do you have to have WB installed for Desktop-X to work correctly? Or does it work ok as a stand alone app?

The only way to install Object Desktop components without Stardock Central, is to order the CD. But using that method, you'll be missing all the updates until the next CD comes out.
By purchasing the Object Desktop subscription, you save a lot of cash compared to buying all the apps seperately. But as you have found, you can't download the stand alone versions....... that's not what you purchased.

If DX is giving you an MCP error, that can be fixed, but downloading the app outside of Stardock Central is unlikely to make any difference.

And no, you don't have to have WindowBlinds to use DesktopX. Any of the apps in the ODNT suite will function independantly.

I use it only to download, update, archive/restore my Stardock apps.

I think the missing mcp can be rectified in the same manner as missing odzip - reinstall SDC over itself

Much thanks for the quick replies. On second thought I will reinstall SDC and spend some time really tweaking and using it and look for solutions to problems instead of trying to 'part and parcel' the apps, and reinstall SDC over itself if Desktop-X gives me errors again. After all spend a lot of time tweaking PC's in general (building and OC'ing) I should know to be more tolerant especially being used to using beta drivers and such, but I am a noob with this suite of applications and UI tweaking in general (besides UI tweaking as in less eye candy for performance within the stock Windows XP environment). I got tired of my XP desktop look and don't feel like going with Vista for about a year even though I'll definitely be building systems with Vista for others -- I can at least make my desktop look better anyway and prolong the life of this copy of XP.

I'll be posting back if I have the MCP error again, and again thanks for the help
