Help w/Icons...please

Here's what's going on: I d/l an Icon package that I really like. The person that created it also has several Object Dock packages that match the style of the Icon package. The problem is that the Object Dock icons are in a .png format, and there are alot more icons in his Object Dock packages than Icon package. Example: he has icons for all of Microsoft Office, MusicMatch, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Limewire, & newer stuff like that. He doesn't have them in the Icon Package. How do I open a .png file and save it as a .icl file? Or do I have this all wrong? How can I get the icons he has in Object Dock into his Icon Package? I'm sleepy, so forgive me if I'm not making sense. -Bryan

You could try converting the png to icon using IconDeveloper and add them to the package.

AveIcon works great! It's a free standalone .exe, no install needed. Drag a .png on, and an .ico off, or visa versa.

The standard dl links don't seem to work, but the one at the bottom of this page works fine.

open the .png files in Icon Develpoer save them as .ico files...open Icon Packager, click view, click on package buider, click open. find the pack that you wish to add the .ico files to and open it...add the files to the pack in the appropriate place...and save as .icl. Load pack and then apply it....hope this helps

Will they lose the ability to have transparency if they are .ico files? Also, do I need to save each icon (different sizes, same icon) individually in the .png file?

I may just be stupid at this, but I can open the package builder. I can change an existing icon, but how do I add the extra icons that I'm not using just yet?

no.

no...once youve selected a png.file a window opens titled "add new icon formats" you can add custom sizes(ie 256x256) Icon packager will automatically create all 8 or so sizes for you when you save it and in one file.

but how do I add the extra icons that I'm not using just yet?

honestly...i'm not exactly sure...but i also would like to know the answer to this one...

My thing is the program files (.exe). I'm wanting to replace the Outlook icon w/the cool new one. I know I can go & individually change them, but I was hoping to edit/create an existing package to contain them. That way, when the package is loaded, the icons automatically change. Same way it does for all the other icons. I'm just surprised it doesn't contain a "Program" section in Icon Packager. It has the "Program Files". .pst, .xls, etc...

i think there is a way to do that and i think it has something to do with adding a subpackage...but i'm just not sure how, i havent had any luck with it...hopefully someone will come along and help us out with this

You can edit the package by just changing the icon you want to change from inside IP, then resave the package...but I don't know of any way to add icons to an existing package w/o using them for SOMETHING...even as a subpackage, they would have to be applied to SOMETHING...hopefully I am understanding you correctly?

Correction...should you happen to want to add icons directly to an existing package, use IconPackager Explorer...pick the theme to add to...Edit->add icon..then pick the icon you want to add...
