I like OD so far, but it just doesn't seem ready for primetime for me as a taskbar replacement. Props to Stardock for working on it and making it as powerful as it is (I think they're nuts making the free version as powerful as it is), but I'd make the for-pay version much more powerful.
- I see some comments about about tab mouseover highlighting that concern me (minor annoyance). I also see some changes made in 1.5 regarding tab mouseover. Can someone clarify the behavior that happens?
- Start button and task tray support should be integral to the program, not as 3rd party docklets. What's in Plus?
- Image and icon support is *almost* there. I like the addition of the library, but it should optional and be put anywhere the user wants it. Also, there is a folder for backgrounds in version 1.5 that is *not* recognized by OD. So is this just a repository that I use merely to transfer folders from My Documents to the appropriate OD backgrounds folder (deep in program files)? What's the point of that? It sounds rather pointless considering that at least the images folder is recognized by the program. How does Plus handle this?
- Better full-screen switching support. Programs like games, CAD software, or other design software that operate in full screen should be handed off via alt-tab cleanly without having to interface with a balky docklet. I should be able to, say, use the right click menu and have OD bow out for the duration of my use of the program and then return when I leave or alt-tab back.
I think at that point I'll consider OD worth about $20-30. Right now, considering the value of other software I own, money I've got on hand, what I'm willing to spring for... I think the for-pay is worth about $10 to be honest.
Thanks,
Bedwyr
