Time estimates

I've been creating my first skin and it seems like it's taking forever. That was partially due to the fact that I first tried creating it in USF but kept getting errors. Anyway, I've been working on it for about 40 minutes in the am and 40 minutes in the pm (as I commute on the train) and I'm nearly done. However, I am leaving some things undone so I can get the main skin done, then add "upgrades" later.
What I'm wondering is how many hours it typically takes someone to create a skin?

Time can be immense. The key thing to remember is DONT RUSH IT!
Review it several times, and don't overlook the small details. There are a few people out there that just pile out the themes without taking this extra step. It's worth it in the long run and it will show.

I have seen some of the top WB skinners state that for a fully done, all the bells and whistles, WB5 skin they have spent 80 to 100 hours.

As you know, I'm a newbie, so this may have been a mistake. If I edit an image file, I save it as filename2.bmp so I can see which is the original and which is the one I created in case I messed something up really badly. I then import the filename2.bmp to replace filename.bmp in the preview (but not the folder). I just realized this may double my skin's file size when I save the final copy which will be posted online. Is this an issue, where Skin Studio saves all of the files in the folder and adds them to the ZIP file, or does Skin Studio just save the files that are designated as part of the skin?

I've only completed ONE WB skin. That was when WB3 came out. Since then I've simplay not gor around to complete every skinnable feature in a skin to complete it because I get new ideas and inspiration as I work and constantly have to go back and change nearly every element to make everything match. Some skins have gone through several complete redesign. Once I finish the curret job I'm doing now I hope to get a week or two off before I continue to the next one where I want to sit down and dedicate myself to actually finish the skins that's been queing up.

To avoid packagin unnessesary files resave your skins under a new name.
