Object Dock stops responding

I have been using Object Dock Free edition and have been thinking about purchasing the Plus version, but something keeps holding me back. The issue that has kept me from making the purchase is the fact that Object Dock seems to stop responding occasionally when emptying the trashbin. This can occure when using CCleaner as well - but usually this happens if I delete a large file (such as a game demo) and empty the trashbin on the dock. The files delete, but Object Dock no longer responds. I have to open the Taskmanager and shut down the Objectdock.exe and then restart it for everything to work as it should. I've noticed this issue occures on my brother's as well as a friends computer that are also using ObjectDock.

Had the paid version long time...works fine...could it be your system? cache need to be cleaned? dunno, I just use it and it works Someone'll see this post, probably, and have a suggestion that'll work. Hang in there. It'll get solved.

What version of OD free? I seem to recall that the Recycle Bin docklet got refreshed a few builds ago (OD+).

I just emptied and had no issues.

I am using 1.30 plus and I have the same problem! I am very new to objectdock but I can say the free version is really not a trial as they are totally different. Just today I emptied my trashbin from objectdock and the dialogue told me it would take 8 minutes. It actually took almost 15. Granted, there was alot of stuff there as I had two acronis images I deleted in there. Still, before objectdock that would've taken no more than a minute.

I have one question for you Shadowkahn, are you using directory opus? Since I have installed objectdock and then objectdock plus, everytime I empty the bin I get a confirmation (do you want to deleted...) that I cannot seem to get rid of

. The window looks like directory opus' window style and synatx though so I think that has something to do with it. I am still configuring OD plus though so I have tried to troubleshoot it yet.

I get the same thing. I'm using the free version (1.30.523). I end up having to close ObjectDock, and start it again, each time I empty the recycle bin.

It's especially bad if there is a lot in the bin, but it lags and often crashes even if theres very little there.

A really annoying bug. It'd be nice if they get this sorted.

Yes, I also encounter this same issue. Mine, however, does not need to be killed through the Task Manager. Just be patient. The docks will will go back to normal after completion of deletion.

Note: The larger the file, the longer the deletion will take. Also, I would check to see if your CCleaner settings are set to DoD 5220.22-M or NSA. Normally you wouldn't need all those passes just for a game demo.

Sorry everyone for not being able to respond in the last few days, I was out of town. But I believe my issue seems to be 'resolved' (this is a 'knock on wood' resolution, probably will come back later - thus I don't really think it solves the issue). I downloaded 1.30.523 freeware (the same version I have) and installed it again - this seems to have fixed the constant locking when emptying the trashbin which would make me go into the taskmanager and remove the ObjectDock process and restart it.

I think I need to clarify what kind of system I am running:
AMD64x2 4800
3gb of Ram
2 250gb Sata Hard Drives
Nvidia 7800GTX 256mb PCI-Express
Windows XP Professional SP2

System is stable, virus free, spyware free. Mainly used for 'lite' video editing and digital image editing, and of course lite pc gaming.

silkshadow, I am sorry, but I am not using directory opus. And before the issue occured with Objectdock locking up after deleting files, it would be instantanious, no dialog for confirmation with ccleaner, there is one when you right click on the rycicle bin, but I am not shown a time it will take to delete - it just removes the objects in the bin.

Doing a few major tests to see if what I have considered mainly as a temporary fix (the whole reinstall over the original), I created a few videos using virtualdub which can create 3.8gb video files, and moved them to the rycicle bin. Using both Ccleaner (the latest version at this time is: 1.32.345) and simply right clicking the object bar icon, I can now safely remove files without the need to shut down the ObjectDock process and restart it.

The issue baffles me really, even though it seems to be resolved, I know I have experienced this issue on three computer setups (2 friends and a roommate) who are using Objectdock, as their main program launching bar. But their issue was sporatic at best where mine was constant.

Hopefully my issue won't come back but I suspect it will, even though doing various tests on both my hardware (memory, harddrive, cpu) and software (operating system) I am certian to my limited knowledge that the computer is not the issue. IT could be temporary files that Objectdock uses in its process, but I don't know.

I used OD (free) for 2 or 3 weeks, and was pretty content, until the coworker who showed me it in the first place, showed me the OD+ he had just bought & installed. Here's what I loved about OD+:

1. Multiple docks - I don't have to have one big dock

2. Flyouts - I can have a flyout submenu, again helps organize

3. Tabbed docks - yes, cool

4. The biggie! A stable dock that shows Windows tray icons, and not just in one docklet, but separately.

Finally, I could hide EVERY icon in Windows, and have a totally clean desktop for working. I now get the full screen.

Plus, I have been writing software for a long (long, long!) time, and I really appreciate well-done software, and advocate paying the shareware fee. The developer of a good software deserves the money.
