NVIDIA and Objectdock (Object Desk)

I am a big fan of Objectdock (who wouldn't be with all the user brain power pushing it's value). My new system has 2 displays and therefore requires software support. I am using NVIDIA because it it came with my XFX display card. It works well and Objectdock works well but they don't seem to be playing well together. Objectdock is crashing 3 or 4 times in a 2 hour period. Especially if I move dock entries around. Also Windowblinds 5.x seems to lose all concept of available screen size (right border spills in to nowhere), and with Objectdock, popout docks on the left side appear on the other display when they are supposed to be hidden.

I have no infatuation with NVIDIA Desktop Manager so an alternative to it would be acceptable. Also knowing (God forbid) what limitations Objectdock and Windowblinds might have would save A LOT of frustration.

Any help would be appreciated.

XP has built in multi-monitor soupport . . I'd try that instead of the nvidia software.

Yikes Clyde, Crashing....that's no good. Have you tried disabling your docklets? The MSN one (not written by us, hopefully soon to be replaced by one that *is*) is particularly flakey.

XP has native support for multiple displays so you do not need any additional software to support it.  Just tell your drivers you want two displays.

Nvidia desktop manager has caused many problems over the years

JMBdev, Neil, wow, thanks for the quick response!

I would gladly give up NVIDIA Desktop Manager for ObjectDock but now that I have turned it off OD crashes immediately every time (ObjectDock has encountered....send report...blah blah blah). I have a remaining process (nvsvc32.exe) which even Quick Processes says I need for the display board. Should I heave even this overboard?

I guess it counts more coming from Stardock.

Zubaz, I apologize big time!

It's a complicated subject with some history thrown in. I have been a critic of Stardock for serveral months, even left the site in frustration. I LOVE their intent....skins are obscenely fun. I think they have provided (opened the door to) some Really Cool Stuff.

What has driven me crazy is that, in the past, is that they have had an "yep, buggy as a swamp, no we don't do that, not compatible....etc." cheerful attitude. That's not unreasonable...BUT...a few hundred folks have been out there banging their heads against the wall, spending a few THOUSANDS of hours in frustration, clinging to each other for support, trying to find out if it was their insantiy or an unacknowledged bug, begging for some documentation...SOME HELP AND HONESTY!!!

Now I come back and I am starting to see some glimmer of acknowledgement, some responsiveness and I am on it like a tramp on a muffin. Went right by what you had to say because I was so thrilled to see TWO count 'em TWO Stardock guys helping with a problem. WHOA! Attitude change...went right by the type of support we have all survived on. What can I say. PLEASE FORGIVE!

Now back to the curmudgeon stuff. I don't want to spend HOURS trying to figure out how an undocumented (or worse MIS-documented parameter works). I WANT COMPLETE DOCUMENTATION AND I WANT IT FROM STARDOCK AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR "WELL, WE ARE IMPROVING IT SO FAST, WE CAN'T KEEP UP WITH DOCUMENTATION"

I am starting to see improvements...hopefully this is because they are starting to make enough money to justify documentation and support. They are NOT a philanthropic organization and I know that. I want them to get rich and GIVE ME THE TOYS THAT WORK!!!!

This site, you know WinCustomize.com, the one your posting one right now. Well to my knowledge, this is Stradock's philanthropy. Yes, there are all kinds of arguments and counter-points to this, but hey, Stardock isn't Microsoft, so let's not treat them like a multi-billion dollar corporation...yet.

Oops! Forgot my original intent (hard to keep on track when you have insulted someone trying to help). Neil, JMBdev, if you are willing to support me after the mini-bashing, I have stripped out every thing NVIDIA I can find and OB has stopped crashing from the get-go. Only thing is that now my CursorXP Plus cursors all display BEHIND eveything OD. Visually interesting but very weird. Can I get to calm computing here or is everyone waiting for everyone else to come out with an upgrade. BTW, what turned the tide with this problem was installing NVIDIA's newest WQHL driver. Thanks again for the attention and help.

KiloKrash, sorry, it's end of day and I am tired. Were you trying to say anything? I completely missed my context errors that gave the impression I was asking Stardock to act like Microsoft. Do I understand you correctly, WinCustomize is what Stardock does intead of.....

No Microsoft is the first thing I thought of when you referred to a Software companing and money...it's always my first thought. Anyway, WinCustomize looses a whole hell of alot of greenbacks every year. Yet, Stardock supports the site, they keep it running. I don't feel you would have said what you said if you knew that. So yes, WinCustomize is Stardock's Philanthropy.

Let's not get out of hand here...I didn't mean anything by it.

Agreed. Stardock's apps are awesome. Sometimes though, the menus and advanced menus and tabs and icons you have to click on to figure what they do . . . that I can live without.

They have gotten so much better in the last year. They have hired more support staff, improved the support ticketing system, they are more available in the forums and in IRC. It rocks!

Un-install them (use a driver cleaner) and install 91.33 WWW Link

yrag, wonderful, straightforward, detailed instructions WITH links. Every damn support sight should have to meet this bar!

Unfortunately, NO JOY. Immediate crash with DC having been run and 91.33 installed. Go figure.

OK, if someone gives you GREAT help.....DO WHAT THEY SAY!!!

Went throught the same process you prescribed again and VOILA! no crash.

For now I am back on track. Stardock, current NVIDIA drivers/apps are NOT your friends. Guess what...they are going to be putting out drivers whether they work with you guys or not. Mayge a little email exchange!!!!
