A folder tab?

How to create a tab with the contents of a folder?

First, I hope this is the right place to post. There is an object bar forum under object desktop but I don't have objectbar I have object dock so this looked like a better place to post. Sorry if I was mistaken.

I would like to create a tab in object dock for my desktop. What I mean is, I have a folder (like everyone does) that contains all the things I have on my desktop. What I want to do is have XPize hide my desktop icons (any number of programs can do this so theres no special significance to XPize in doing this). Then use object dock to access and display all the files inside my desktop folder. However, there seems to be no option to create a tab based on a folder. I know its probably really easy but I did a search, I have yet to find the manual and I am a poor noob. Can anyone help me do this? Thanks!

That function does not exist. Can I interest you in a fly-out menu or regular menu of said folder?

Open explorer and go to the hardrive where windows is installed, open "documents and settings", Open the folder with the name of your user profle on eg. "Mark", There should by a folder called "desktop".

On my PC the destination is:

D:\Documents and Settings\Julian\Desktop

Except that mlin wants to create a tab with all the shortcuts in a folder on that tab. Probably wants it dynamic too.

Otherwise . . mlin can always create a new tab and drag all the icons to it. But you knew that, right?

A dynamic linked folder -> tab would be cool.

Folder-linked tabs is indeed something we're considering putting into ObjectDock and have thought about in the past. While I cannot guarantee it will make it into the next release I can say that there is strong interest in implementing this ability!

First, I would like to say wow. This forum is active and great! I ask a question and get a load of answers, some jokes, and a reply from one of the devs in like no time! Amazing, thank you! Of course, I am a little dissapointed that this does not exist. Yup, I am looking for a dynamic folder tab. I already set up a folder shortcut and tried a flyout menu, for my desktop folder, which gives me access but I can't create or drag things into there and I can't edit things (like rename or whatever) and can't delete the things in there. Is there a way to create a flyout or folder shortcut where I can, at least, get a standard right-click menu on the individual items inside it? Right now, right-clicking does nothing and left-clicking launches it. Or is there a way to have a kind of shortcut under the "add entry" menu where I can create a file type (like a text document) in a tab? Thanks!

No

Have you tried ObjectBar? You can do a lot with it and all items allow you to rightclick and access the "File System Menu".

It's not as cool looking as OD+ tabs . . but it's wicked powerful.

I just created a bar with a Show/hide element on the top, a seperator below it and a shortcut to a folder . . . with the right skin . . it'd be a tab.

Thanks Zubaz! Yeah, I gave objectbar a try before objectdock. It did seem to be a bit more system customizable but I just didn't like it, for no particular reason though. Just didn't fit with what I wanted to do with my desktop, I guess. However, I actually really like objectdock. Well, I am stil new to it maybe I can find a way to do what I want via other methods or something. There's alot in here I haven't messed with yet (like, for example, I am not really sure what you ment in your second post

Here's the "dock" I just built: desktoptest.exe

If it works for you, great, if not . . no loss. You should be able to edit it once it's loaded.

Thanks Zubaz! I will give it a shot. I think I may have also found another way to go about it using the folder selector docklet. I have to give it a try tonight.
