Outlook desktop icon

I searched for this and couldn't find it anywhere so hopefully someone can help. I just installed WB 5 on my desktop (WINXP Pro with SP2). After I installed it and rebooted I noticed that my Microsoft Office Outlook icon image (that's Outlook 2003) is missing. The icon still opens Outlook without any problems it's just that the icon image itself is missing. I ran the refresh icons in TweakUI to see if that would help, but it didn't. Has anyone else had this problem or know how I can fix it? That icon on my desktop seems to be the only one that's broken. All other Outlook icon images are fine.

If you right click on it, properties, and go into the change icon option, can you get it back?

No. This isn't a "short cut" icon. It's like the IE, Recycle Bin, My Computer, etc icons. So, when I right click and open the Properties I actually get the Mail Setup dialog box for Outlook. Just like when you right click and open the Properties for IE you get the Internet Options dialog box.

huh - the one on my desktop here at work is a "shortcut" - and has a 'change icon' option - but if I use the quick launch, it says it's a shortcut but the 'change icon' is blanked

I get the mail dialog when right clicking the one in the start menu (not using classic start)

Well, if you right click on IE and select Properties do you get the Internet Properties dialog box? If so, imagine that the blue "e" wasn't there and in it's place was the generic windows icon. That's the problem I'm seeing with my Outlook icon.

Interesting.

I am running Office 2003 small business edition, and unlike Office XP, it does not install an Outlook desktop icon.

I would have to drag-n-drop the "E-mail" icon from the start menu (or perhaps Quick Launch bar) to create an icon with the properties you are referring to.

If your version of Office (or Outlook) 2003 placed a desktop icon by default, you might try to use the "Help > Detect and Repair" feature in Outlook (note - you might need the installation disc if you did not leave the temporary Windows installer files in place).

As far as WB 5 goes, you might try deselecting the "Apply any icon package supplied" option under 'Basic Settings' in the WB configuration panel. As far as I know, this is the only connection WB has to any icons in the system (other than it's own icons).

yepper (once I used rightclick on dt > prop > desktop to put it back on the desktop) - that's what I got.
