Hope You'll come back someday, Michael Buble

I don’t know if many of you are familiar with Michael Buble (pronounced boo-blay), but he’s a Canadian singer who has recorded a few CDs of well known standards.We (my honey, sis, and brother) attended his concert last night...and I just have to say he put on a really good show!

He started off with an energetic song called “Feeling Good”...making a smooth entrance down some steps and looking dapper in a black suit and red tie. He and his mini orchestra did a great job getting the crowd into it...they sounded awesome! He kept us going with his next song, an upbeat “Sway”, which is originally from a Mexican composer, but was made popular by Dean Martin.

He went on to sing some other crowd pleasers like “Fever” (Peggy Lee), “Try a little Tenderness” (Otis Redding) “For Once in my Life” (Stevie Wonder), “Moondance” (Van Morrison), “Come fly with Me” (Sinatra), an upbeat version of “Smile” (Chaplin), “Save the Last Dance for Me” (The Drifters), “The Way you look Tonight” (Sinatra), “Crazy Little thing Called Love” (Queen), among other popular songs.

Although Michael does tend to stick with covers, he does have a few original songs, one of which is “Home” from his latest album. This song, which has been played regularly on the radio these past few months, is a very sweet but sad song (and it makes my sister cry, for it makes her think of her hubby, who is in Korea right now).

Not only did I enjoy the music, I also enjoyed Michael’s sense of humor and the way he conversed with the crowd. He mentioned how he felt for the guys in the audience, since he KNEW they probably DIDN’T want to be there. He said, “I’m here for you, men...I”m here for ya.” He announced he’d try to get the gals in the right mood for their men after the show, or as he put it: “I’m gonna make sure to pump up their tires so you can ride that bike ALL night long...”

He also teased people in the audience for taking pics even though cameras weren’t allowed and even sat on a woman’s lap to pose for a photo with her. And being a handsome guy, there were no shortage of women’s squeals and screams for him.
There was a woman who ran up to hug him and squeeze his behind, which he played along with and handled really well. And he was able to fend off a few gals who ran up to the stage to touch him. (Oh, the horrible things a good looking musician has to go through, eh).
He also made fun of himself, and didn’t take himself too seriously, which I liked (a few memorable moments were when a band member went up to mimic Michael, and when Michael did a cool Johnny Cash impression and a hilarious Michael Jackson impression, which were both surprisingly good!).

So, all in all, the show was great. I was able to buy a program and a pic as souvenirs, and after the show, got an autograph from his opening act (a gal named Jan Ardenn, a fellow Canadian who had a hit called “Insensitive a few years ago). I didn’t get to let out much squeals for him myself since I have a bad sore throat...but I was able to sing along some, laugh some, and move to the beat of the music. I thoroughly enjoyed Michael, his wonderful voice, and his talented band. He says that they’ll be back, and it would definitely be cool to see them again!
