How do I install them?

I have Icon Packager 2.5. I downloaded the GT3 icon package. It came with two files. One is .iconpackage and the other is .icl. I've opened Icon Packager and tried to install the package. I've use the "Install New Package" button and tried to drag and drop the .iconpackage file. I keep getting a message that its not a valid package file. I'm new to this whole Object Desktop thing. Am I doing something wrong?

downloading to see... I'm on dialup... don't wait up.

If I had to hazard a guess, GT3 is for v.3

If you right click the .iconpackage and choose 'open with' does IconPackager come up?
Most of the ones I've been downloading have an extension of .ip

No but IconDeveloper does. I haven't figured out that program either. The two files in the package are .icl and .iconpackage

try changing .icompackager to .ip - right click and open with IconPackager

didn't finish my download last night... and I'm still at work

IconPackager still isn't there. When I click the file it opens with IconDeveloper. I'll try to reinstall IconPackager.

Trouble is, after I download it, GT3 will work for me as I'm using v3.

I'll have to check, but I think v2.5 was one of the archives I lost in a crash.

I remember reading a post not long after v3 came out, that packages made for it didn't work in earlier versions. So I'm thinking, since the Details for GT3 specifically show v3 in the upper right corner, it's not gonna work with v2.5.

I've noticed as a general rule (sometimes made to be broken) skins, packages, objects, etc made for an earlier version of a program can be made to work with a newer version of the program BUT those things made for a newer version don't/can't always work with an older program version.

That was the problem. I downloaded v3 and it worked. I'll just have to get that so this wont happen in the future. Thanks for all the help.

You're Welcome.

If you purchase IP v3 and you don't have Stardock Central , you might consider getting it.
It will keep track of what you have and notify you of any new releases you're entitled to. It also has an archive function for easy rollback incase a newer version causes you problems.

You might also consider other programs you might buy, add them up and compare to the full ODNT package price.
