Including Custom Cursors (".cur" & ".ani" files)

Hello again.

I am shelving my Media Player until I learn scripting.

Active X Controls are not my main focus and I thought that a media player would be easier to script than it was (I have no real use for one either!).

So I am making something more to my tastes.

A Game!

I wanted to include a special Cursor. Not a Cursor XP file. But I could make it one if it would help (however I am using DX Pro and want the distribution rights to my creation, so that may interfere!).

Just regular ".cur" & ".ani" files.

I am still just beginning my studies of New Fangled Programming. So I just need a pointer (Good Pun!) for whether or not I'll find this in VB Script Tutorials and such.

I'm not asking you to script it all out for me!

Although... now that I mention it... Feel Free if you have nothing better to do!

Well, Methusem, I have looked into this since you asked, and can't find a way to include your ".ani" and ".cur" files.

If you had Flash 8, you could make the whole thing an embedded flash object and use a clip as a custom cursor.

But so far that is all I can offer you.

Maybe someone else here knows something that might help?

your 'regular' cursor could be a theme with installer but it would have to be called upon to use when the game is on, but go back to regular when the game is off.  I'm wondering... if you're using dtx then how it would affect people using cursorxp (those with dtx probably have cursorxp) vs people using regular cursors.

if you use cursorxp, then could it not be similar to the alienware themes? only get it when it's running, unload the theme (game) it reverts back?  but then how would it effect those using cursorxp? would it revert back to the original cursorxp they were using?  i lost the alienware themes I had when my system crashed and I'm on dialup, so it will be a while before I try to get them back to try.

if you use flash, then maybe I wouldn't have to wonder?

Well, the game is for a website promo, so I need Full Rights to everything.

I doubt I can use Cursor XP in that fashion.

I don't have Flash... too expensive.

Thanks for the bump, though.

I'll look into a loadable and unloadable theme idea, but wouldn't that take too long for a simple mouse over effect on the game border?

This new stuff is alien to me...

I miss DOS!

Maybe with java?

3dcursors.com had a link to some jave files that included special things for a cursor visiting a website (like a clock follower that disassembles and follows the mouse when it's moving and reassembles to a working clock when the mouse is stationary).  They may still be down for some maintenance.

Yeah, JavaScript works for mouse trailers...

I wonder if an image could be offset to cover and completely follow to mouse more closely.

I suspect the original pointer would show through rather often.

The mouse trailer thing was meant to follow the mouse around... I don't know what would happen if it was used to replace the pointer.

I'll look into it!

I'll post any results, but the work week is starting, and I may be busy.

Check 3dcursors.com

I seem to recall (prior to using CursorXP)that browsing in the cursors section, my cursor changed to one of the cursors on display.
