P.S. Kupe: I've come to the conclusion that 'jive' has taken hold, like it or not. If you google "that doesn't jive" you get 11,900 entries. If you google "that doesn't jibe" you get 11,400. Chalk that up with 'bad', 'sick', etc.
I always assumed it was an abuse of 'gibe', as in a joke or taunt, as Hamlet uses it when he says "Where be your gibes now? your gambols? your songs? your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the table on a roar?"
